In 2001, Forterra, the City of Tukwila, and a local citizen group formed a partnership to work for the preservation of an abandoned parcel of land adjacent to the Duwamish River. As well as creating a buffer near the Duwamish, the property will be managed as a public open space preserve devoted to the interpretation of the site’s Native American cultural significance and other aspects of Duwamish River Valley natural and cultural history.

NFA has been helping out at Duwamish Hill Preserve for the last two years.  We have been watching the change as the abandoned industrial site has been cleaned up and restored.  And we do mean restored!  Here are some pictures from a previous event. April 2016 Duwamish Hill Conservation Outing Report Pictures.pdf

Across the street from the Duwamish River, the DH Preserve shows what volunteers can do to improve land that drains into one of Puget Sound’s important rivers.

Join us on April 22, 2017 at the Hill and help in the recovery. Directions.
