Stephen Williams and I are hosting the Central Oregon outing this year. We've been talking about it and would like some feedback from the Washington crowd to help us make the outing more attractive to you all. I've joined Tim and Renee on the last two years trips and I know they tried to offer some variety of fishing. The Crooked River, the Metolius, sections of the Middle Deschutes, and some of the Cascade lakes have been visited in the past. The Crooked River has been off for several months this year. Last summer's drought and low flows have resulted in very different fishing success than in past seasons and unless something improves dramatically, we may want to think about a different camping location.

Stephen and I live near Redmond, OR and there are many options near us. The Metolius is a beautiful river with several campgrounds. Three Creeks Lake is also relatively close by and also has a decent campground. The town of Sisters, Or is a good spot to use as base camp as it offers some  restaurants, and shopping in a quaint western setting. It is also close to the Foley Waters and Steelhead Falls on the Middle Deschutes.

The Cascade Lakes such as Hosmer or East Lake,  are over an hour away from us, but we managed that two years ago just fine.

Where we choose to camp, or whether we choose to camp at all, I think depends upon how many of you can make the trip down south. Reserving camp space can be tricky as most of the camp grounds are first come first served.

I'd really appreciate your thoughts and suggestions. Its a long trip down to Central Oregon, and any of you that want to extend the stay to make the trip worthwhile can certainly be accommodated. There are some great guides in the area and plenty of places to fish, and did I mention the darn good breweries  and brew pubs in the neighborhood.
